Chef James “Jim” or “Jimmy” Balchak was a son, brother, uncle, friend, chef, collector, sports fan, and one-of-a-kind personality who left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Jim never lacked for words. With his stories, opinions, quick wit, and humor, he had a way of keeping people laughing and making ordinary moments memorable.
Although Jim did not often talk about his collectibles, they reflected a personal side of who he was. He loved comics, sports cards, figures, toys, memorabilia, and the nostalgia and imagination they carried. A huge Cleveland sports fan and a fan of just about any sport, Jim loved the competition, the energy, the heartbreak, and the hope that came with every game. His favorite superhero was Doctor Strange, a fitting favorite for someone who appreciated the unusual, the imaginative, and the unexpected.
As his family, we are honored to celebrate Jim’s life by sharing some of the things he enjoyed. This collection represents more than items.
